AI Safety & Privacy
Fixa is the AI bot inside the FixerUp app. It helps you describe a repair, explore a proposed solution and estimated price range, and coordinate questions with a pro or the FixerUp team. An AI estimate is not the final agreed project price. When you chat with Fixa, it sends your input to a third-party AI provider for processing. This page explains exactly what we send, what we don't, and how you're in control. Learn how Fixa helps with your home project.
The AI provider we use
Fixa is powered by OpenAI. We call OpenAI's API to turn your description of a repair into the questions Fixa asks you and the quote you eventually see.
What we send to OpenAI
When you chat with Fixa, we send the following to OpenAI:
- The text you type in the chat (e.g. "my kitchen faucet is leaking from the base").
- Photos you take or attach to the conversation (e.g. a picture of the leaking faucet).
That's it. We send only what Fixa needs to understand and price the repair.
Please note: anything you type into the Fixa chat is sent to OpenAI as part of the message. If you don't want OpenAI to see something, don't type it into the chat.
What we never send to OpenAI
We never send the following to OpenAI:
- Audio recordings — even if you describe a repair using voice input, the voice is converted to text on your device first; only the resulting text reaches OpenAI.
- Video files — Fixa works from still photos only.
How OpenAI handles your data
Per OpenAI's API privacy terms:
- Data sent through their API is not used to train OpenAI's models.
- Data may be retained for up to 30 days for OpenAI's abuse and misuse monitoring, then permanently deleted.
Your consent
The first time you sign in to FixerUp before starting a quote with Fixa, we explicitly tell you the AI Chat will use your account to store your data and progress, and link you to this page. By continuing through sign-in, you agree to this data flow. You can revoke that consent at any time by deleting your account from the app.
How to stop
You can stop using Fixa at any time — simply don't start a new quote chat. If you'd like to delete your FixerUp account along with the content you've shared, open the app and go to Profile → Privacy & Security → Delete Account.
